As of today (5/7/2018), the West Coast (PADD5) diesel fuel price as published by the U.S. Dept. of Energy is $3.464 per gallon (please refer the following link: (https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/).   This price level corresponds with an inland/arbitrary fuel surcharge of 28.5% as published in tariff STB TOTE 101-A and TOCT 402-A per Item 346.

Therefore, effective May 20, 2018 the inland/arbitrary fuel surcharge Item 346 shall be reduced to 28.5%.

Please note: the ocean fuel surcharge will remain as published in TOTE Maritime Alaska tariffs under Item 345.

Update on LNG Conversion Timeline

To our valued customers –

TOTE Maritime Alaska is adjusting the LNG conversion schedule and has elected to delay the upcoming Midnight Sun LNG conversion phase-1 dry-dock by 1 year. Midnight Sun was originally scheduled to undergo phase 1 of the LNG conversion from mid-December 2018 through early-February 2019.  TOTE Maritime Alaska will continue sailing both vessels throughout the year with the exception of routine holiday single-sailings.

The adjustment to the conversion schedule aligns the Orca’s LNG-readiness to the most recent timeline for Tacoma’s LNG-plant completion.

In place of this year’s dry dock period, our team will continue preparing Midnight Sun’s transition to LNG for items that don’t require a dry-dock.

TOTE Maritime Alaska is fully committed to convert the Orca class vessels to LNG, the most environmentally friendly maritime fuel available.

The new conversion schedule is as follows;

For further information please contact your account executive or customer service.

We greatly appreciate your support.

Phase 1 of TOTE Maritime Conversion to LNG Complete

Phase 1 of TOTE Maritime Conversion to LNG Complete

LNG tanks and critical engine updates completed during initial phase of four year process

February 26, 2018 – Federal Way, WA – TOTE Maritime Alaska has completed the first of four conversion periods for the Orca class vessels, a process which will enable the ships to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel.  TOTE Maritime’s North Star arrived in Anchorage yesterday, completing her first voyage after being outfitted with two LNG tanks immediately behind the ship’s bridge.

In addition to the LNG tanks and accompanying infrastructure, the ship received critical engine updates necessary to utilize LNG as a fuel and underwent a standard regulatory dry-dock.

TOTE Maritime was the first maritime shipping company in the world to announce its intention to convert their fleet, enabling the engines to use both LNG and diesel

This conversion will drastically reduce air emissions from TOTE Maritime’s Alaska ships, virtually eliminating sulfur oxides (SOx) and particulate matter while drastically reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon dioxide. Reduced emissions will result in a healthier environment for Tacoma, WA, Puget Sound and Anchorage, AK, the communities in which TOTE Maritime operates.

“We are excited to be the first shipping company in the United States to undertake this important environmental effort” noted Mike Noone, President of TOTE Maritime Alaska. “And we are appreciative of our customers and partners who support our ongoing effort to innovate in ways that reflect our commitment to the environment and communities we serve.”

Over the next four years, three more conversion periods will be required to finalize the transition of TOTE Maritime Alaska’s vessels to LNG to LNG. Each of these conversion periods will take place in the winter to minimize the impact to customers and consumers alike. The conversion of both ships is scheduled to be complete in Q1 of 2021.

TOTE NAMED ONE OF THE 2018 WORLD’S MOST ETHICAL COMPANIES®

TOTE NAMED ONE OF THE 2018 WORLD’S MOST ETHICAL COMPANIES® BY THE ETHISPHERE INSTITUTE

Recognition honors those who operate with purpose and incorporate
integrity into their ecosystems.

Princeton, NJ – February 12, 2018  – TOTE, a leading maritime transportation company in the United States, has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, as one of the 2018 World’s Most Ethical Companies.

This is the first time TOTE has been recognized and TOTE is one of only two honorees in the Logistics and Transportation industry, underscoring their commitment to leading with integrity and prioritizing ethical business practices.

In 2018, 135 honorees were recognized, spanning 23 countries and 57 industries. The twelfth class of honorees had record levels of involvement with their stakeholders and their communities around the world. Measuring and improving culture, leading authentically and committing to transparency, diversity and inclusion were all priorities for honorees.

“TOTE is honored to be named one of the World’s Most Ethical companies for 2018” noted Anthony Chiarello, President and CEO of TOTE. “This award is a reflection of the TOTE employees and their dedication to and embodiment of the company’s values – safety, commitment and integrity. It is also a reflection of TOTE’s focus on ethics and integrity and their role in past and future successes.”

“While the discourse around the world changed profoundly in 2017, a stronger voice emerged. Global corporations operating with a common rule of law are now society’s strongest force to improve the human condition. This year we saw companies increasingly finding their voice. The World’s Most Ethical Companies in particular continued to show exemplary leadership,” explained Ethisphere’s CEO, Timothy Erblich. “I congratulate everyone at TOTE for being recognized as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies.”

Ethics & Performance
Once again, the 2018 World’s Most Ethical Companies have proven that operating with integrity leads to greater financial performance. Research has found that, when indexed, listed World’s Most Ethical Companies outperformed the U.S. Large Cap Index over five years by 10.72 percent and over three years by 4.88 percent. Ethisphere refers to this as the Ethics Premium.

Methodology & Scoring
The World’s Most Ethical Companies assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute’s Ethics Quotient® (EQ) framework, which offers a quantitative way to assess a company’s performance in an objective, consistent and standardized manner. The information collected provides a comprehensive sampling of definitive criteria of core competencies rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance and ethics.

Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent), culture of ethics (20 percent), governance (15 percent) and leadership, innovation and reputation (10 percent). All companies that participate in the assessment process receive their scores, providing them with valuable insights into how they stack up against leading organizations.
