As we work our way through the final quarter of 2019, it’s a great time to appreciate the progress we’ve made while looking ahead to our future. Our biggest measurement of success has always been hinged on our safety culture. The safety of our people, our partners, and our customers is the key to our success in delivering best-in-class service to Alaska.
This past month, we celebrated the First Annual TOTE Safety Day, which included standing down operations for half-day events in Tacoma and Anchorage. The events were a monumental success and gave our team the chance to pause and focus on one thing – owning safety. I am so grateful to the small but dedicated internal team that made it all happen, as well our customers and partners who worked with us on scheduling and operations. This partnership drives home that when we all get home safe, we all win.
Our next phase of the LNG conversion project is right around the corner. In this newsletter, we’ve included a short video on all the work and collaboration that has gone into this project. This is an exciting time, not only for TOTE but for the shipping industry and the Alaska market as a whole and we hope to celebrate this milestone with everyone.
We’re scheduled to head into drydock on December 13, when M.V. Midnight Sun will enter the shipyard for a nine-week period. We have all been working diligently to make sure our customers have a smooth and effortless experience during the single sailing period. Going into this single sailing, we are equipped with the knowledge and experience from our last conversion to create the best experience possible for our customers and our partners. As always, we are open to any questions or feedback you might have, so do not hesitate to reach out to me or someone on our team.
I cannot stress enough how our commitment to focus on our customers and to execute through this period flawlessly will set the stage for our success, not only in 2020, but in the years beyond. We are in the final stretch of 2019. We must finish strong and not succumb to complacency or fall prey to normalizing the risks around us. I am committing to making sure all go home safe as we look forward to time with family and friends this holiday season and I need your commitment to the same.
As we head into 2020 and celebrate 45 years of service to Alaska, I want to mention how grateful I am to our customers, partners, and the TOTE team. At the end of the day, we are all here for Alaska and could not be successful without the genuine and trusting relationships we have built with you all.
President, TOTE Maritime Alaska
