Stop hoarding: Anchorage mayor, shipping companies assure Alaskans the supply chain is intact

 

On Sunday morning, Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz stood on a third-story deck overlooking the Port of Alaska, where workers were unloading 1,200 shipping containers of goods.

In two days, another 1,200 will arrive on Anchorage’s shore.

Berkowitz was intentionally addressing news media with a busy port as the backdrop. He wants to dispel rumors that the coronavirus has disrupted the supply chain, which has prompted residents to make a run on grocery stores, clearing out pasta, rice, meat, baking ingredients and cleaning products. TOTE Maritime Alaska Continuing Twice-weekly Service to Alaska

 

TOTE Maritime Alaska is continuing with its scheduled twice weekly service to Alaska. The response to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 is a continually evolving situation and TOTE Maritime Alaska will remain committed to providing safe and reliable service to Alaska.

On Friday, March 13, TOTE Maritime Alaska announced that they are implementing measures to ensure the health and wellbeing of their employees and their ability to service customers and keep critical supply chains open and reliable. These measures include supporting social distancing efforts by encouraging employees to work from home and increasing measures to limit exposure to our vessel crews at sea.

Ocean Fuel-Related Surcharge – Effective March 1, 2020

 

TOTE Maritime Alaska has filed to decrease its ocean fuel surcharge as published in tariff STB TOTE 101-A as follows:

Tariff Item 345 shall be decreased 2% from 26.0% to 24.0% effective Sunday, March 1, 2020. 

We will continue to closely monitor fuel costs and make further adjustments to the ocean fuel surcharge as appropriate.

Inland Fuel Surcharge – Effective March 15, 2020

As of Monday (3/2/2020), the West Coast (PADD5) Diesel Fuel Price as published by the U.S. Dept. of Energy is $3.424 per gallon (please refer the following link: (https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/).   This price level corresponds with an inland/arbitrary fuel surcharge of 30.0% as published in tariff STB TOTE 101-A and TOCT 402-A per Item 346.

Therefore, effective March 15, 2020 the inland/arbitrary fuel surcharge Item 346 shall be decreased to 30.0%. 

Please note: the ocean fuel surcharge will remain as published in TOTE Maritime Alaska tariffs under Item 345.   

Voyage 20035 Anchorage Delayed

Due to inclement weather, Midnight Sun voyage 20035 is scheduled to arrive in Anchorage on Tuesday morning for a 1100 work start.

Anchorage Terminal:

Monday, March 2

  • 1500 – All hazardous cargo must be booked and approved
  • 1500 – All hazardous waste must be in the yard
  • 1700 – All hazardous loads must be in the yard

Tuesday, March 3

  • 0800-1800 – Lanes Open
