Joe Bennett - Safety at the Forefront

TOTE Puerto Rico (TPR) Terminal Operations Manager Joseph Bennett is the 2019 Saltchuk honoree for Innovation in Safety.

His years of experience working in warehousing and stevedoring served as a knowledge base for the “simple yet innovative” changes he spearheaded at TMPR, despite his short tenure with the company.

Bennett grew up in Yulee, Florida near Jacksonville. He joined the Marine Corps when he was 18 and has worked in logistics for the past 15 years. Read more here.

TOTE Puerto Rico and the Communities We Serve

Safe Harbor Academy

In July we had the pleasure of combining some of our monetary support with our sister company Shoreside to support the Safe Harbor Academy for Boys, another Jacksonville based organization. We made a combined donation of $30,000 that will rebuild their work shop over the next two months so they can continue their hands on education in maritime maintenance and repair while finishing their High School education. This is just one of the ways TOTE is investing in the future of mariners.

Dreams Come True

This year, all of the TOTE organizations are coming together to support the Jacksonville based Dreams Come True organization.  Dreams Come True is the First Coast’s only locally-based, wish granting organization dedicated to using the power of a dream to bring hope and joy to EVERY First Coast child battling a life-threatening illness. Since 1984, Dreams Come True has been able to fulfill the dreams of more than 4,000 children. No child is ever denied a dream and no child is ever placed on a waiting list.

As the premier sponsor for the third year, we are encouraging all of our employees and their families, and our customers, partners and vendors to join TEAM TOTE to support over 60 dreams for children in the Jacksonville community.  Together with your family, you can take time to help support kids with cancer in a fun, safe and healthy way.  To learn more about Dreams Come True, and how you can easily join our VIRTUAL RUN later this year, go to: https://www.dreamscometrue.org/event/dreams-come-true-virtual-5k-and-1-mile-fun-run/

La Fondita de Jesus

Also, last month, in addition to the monetary support TOTE provides to La Fondita de Jesus, the employees from Jacksonville and San Juan collected over 50 pairs of gently used mens jeans.  These items are desperately needed by the homeless communities across the island.  Thank you to everyone who contributed!

Safety Spotlight - Hurricane Hazards

While hurricanes pose the greatest threat to life and property, tropical storms and depressions can also be devastating.

Hazards from tropical cyclones (which include tropical depressions, tropical storms and hurricanes) include storm surge flooding, inland flooding from heavy rains, destructive winds, tornadoes and high surf with rip currents.
